Job summary

Jacobian is building the backend platform powering its AI-driven radiology reporting solution. You will design and develop cloud-native services and APIs in Java/Spring Boot, enabling secure, scalable workloads in the cloud and defining clear API contracts.

You will work across backend, data, security, and cloud runtime, contributing to both greenfield platform work and legacy system modernization. This hybrid role is based in our Pittsburgh, PA office with 2–3 days onsite per week.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience in Java using Spring/Spring Boot.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Experience with object storage such as S3 or MinIO.
• Understanding of OAuth2 / OpenID Connect and service-to-service authentication.
• Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes.
• Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build foundational backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot for secure cloud workloads.
• Define API contracts, versioning strategies, and service boundaries to reduce coupling.
• Design schemas and data access patterns using PostgreSQL and object storage for large payloads.
• Implement authentication/authorization and RBAC at the service level.
• Collaborate on Kubernetes deployment manifests, readiness/liveness probes, and Helm charts.
• Lead ADRs and review designs with a long-term systems perspective.
• Partner with frontend, reliability, CI/CD, and security teams to promote platform patterns.
