Job summary

Seneca Resources seeks a Backend Engineer to join a hybrid team in Vienna, VA / Pensacola, FL. You will design, develop, test, and maintain secure backend services and APIs using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and RESTful architectures.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in Java backend development with Java 17+
• Proficiency with Spring Framework/Spring Boot and RESTful API development
• Automated testing with JUnit/Mockito; TDD practices encouraged
• Git, CI/CD tools, and containerization (Docker)
• Relational DBs, SQL, data access patterns
• Experience designing scalable microservices and distributed apps
• Cloud-native development; Azure preferred
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain secure backend services and APIs
• Build scalable microservices supporting mobile, web, and partner apps
• Improve reliability, observability, and performance of backend systems
• Collaborate with analysts, QA, frontend, architects, and stakeholders
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical design and standards
• Support full development lifecycle including deployment and incident response
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and promote automation and reusable components
• Provide technical guidance and share knowledge with peers
