Rippling is seeking a hands-on Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale its security-first, multi-product platform. You’ll design services, APIs, and platform primitives powering complex workflows across HR, IT, and finance.

You will work on permissions, policy enforcement, approvals, payments, device/app management, procurement, asset tracking, auditability, and secure handling of sensitive workforce data. AI-driven workflows expansion is also a focus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in production environments using Python, Go, or similar high-scale backend language.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization of relational databases.
• Strong CS/algorithms fundamentals and experience with complex project delivery.
• Exceptional communication skills with technical and cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and implementation of backend services and APIs powering critical product capabilities.
• Build reliable, secure, and scalable systems for high-volume workflows across Spend, IT, identity, access, approvals, and compliance.
• Make strategic technical decisions around architecture, infrastructure, data modeling, performance, and operational reliability.
• Translate ambiguous business needs into robust technical solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Build and evolve systems involving workflows, permissions, policy enforcement, financial operations, device/app management, procurement, and security controls.
• Raise the technical bar through design reviews, mentorship, and backend engineering best practices.
• Help create unified product experiences across employees, spend, devices, apps, and requests.
