Job summary

Rippling in San Francisco is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build backend services, APIs, and platform primitives powering complex workflows across Spend, IT, identity, devices, and security controls.

You will influence architecture, data modeling, and performance for high-volume systems, while expanding AI-powered workflows and ensuring safety, reliability, and enterprise-grade transparency for customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production backend experience in Python, Go, or similar
• Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture and data modeling
• Strong CS fundamentals and experience delivering complex projects

Responsibilities

• Own the design and implementation of backend services and APIs for core product capabilities.
• Build reliable, secure, and scalable systems for high-volume workflows (Spend, IT, identity, approvals, and security controls).
• Make strategic technical decisions around architecture, infrastructure, data modeling, performance, and reliability.
• Translate business needs into robust technical solutions in partnership with product and design teams.
• Lead code and design reviews, mentoring, and best-practice adoption across backend teams.
• Help create unified product experiences across Rippling’s multi-product platform.
