Rippling is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build backend services and APIs powering a multi-product platform. You’ll handle permissions, policy enforcement, approvals, payments, device and app management, procurement, security controls, and data handling at scale from Spend to IT.

You’ll contribute to AI-powered workflows across HR, IT, and Finance, ensuring safety, reliability, explainability, and enterprise readiness while collaborating with product and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production experience with Python, Go, or similar.
• Distributed systems architecture and relational database optimization.
• Experience at scale and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong CS fundamentals and complex project delivery.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs powering core product capabilities.
• Build reliable, secure, and scalable systems for high-volume workflows across Spend, IT, identity, access, approvals, and compliance.
• Make strategic technical decisions around architecture, infrastructure, data modeling, performance, and reliability.
• Translate ambiguous business needs into robust technical solutions with product, frontend, platform, design, and cross-functional teams.
• Develop and evolve systems involving workflows, permissions, financial operations, device and app management, procurement, and security controls.
• Elevate technical standards through reviews, mentorship, and best practices in backend engineering.
• Help create unified product experiences that consolidate fragmented solutions for employees, spend, devices, apps, access, and business ops.
