Job summary

Affirm is building an advertising platform and a best-in-class shopping destination that emphasizes speed and transparency for users. We are forming a new team to own search, discovery, and recommendations, with impact on customer experience and monetization.

You will lead technical strategy, collaborate across product, design and analytics, and set high standards for code quality, reliability and on-call readiness in a remote-friendly, highly collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend systems experience.
• Expertise in Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience with React UI.
• 2+ years in search or related recommendation engines.
• Ability to plan features and write high-quality code.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics across the development lifecycle.
• Advocate for robust technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations, monitoring, triage, playbooks and on-call readiness.
• Set and enforce code review and design standards across teams.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and leadership.
