Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced backend engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable services in a remote-friendly environment. You will help set technical strategy, collaborate with product, design, and analytics, and raise the bar for reliability and performance across distributed systems.

Proficiency in Python or Kotlin, plus experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes, is required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering major features and writing high quality, maintainable code.
• Strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team over a year and align with business goals.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ensure sustainability and trade-offs are understood.
• Define and promote technical solutions and operating processes for reliability.
• Own and improve team operations, monitoring, and on-call practices.
• Set coding and design standards and mentor teammates.
