Job summary

Hatch is seeking a senior backend engineer to own the architecture, delivery, and reliability of the backend behind our mobile apps and IoT devices. You will work with Java, Spring Boot, Groovy, and Python, building scalable REST APIs and cloud services on AWS while mentoring a growing engineering team.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, a strong bias for automated testing, and the use of AI to accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and build scalable RESTful JSON APIs.
• Experience with distributed systems and AWS.
• Automate testing and CI/CD practices.
• Desire for elegant, simple code and pragmatic decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, delivery, and reliability of the backend behind Hatch's apps and IoT devices.
• Lead design decisions and mentor engineers across teams.
• Improve observability and reliability using internal tools.
• Collaborate across Mobile, Embedded, and Product teams.
• Drive end-to-end backend projects with Spring Boot + Hibernate, leveraging AI where helpful.
