Job summary

Hatch is a sleep wellness company enabling better rest through thoughtful, AI-assisted software. You will build, ship, and operate the backend powering Hatch’s mobile apps and IoT devices, focusing on Java and Python REST APIs, AWS IoT, Lambda, and robust DevOps practices to keep millions of devices humming in real homes.

You'll collaborate with Mobile, Embedded, and Product teams, contribute to architecture and design discussions, and help scale the backend as Hatch grows.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of backend engineering experience, with strong JVM language skills.
• Experience building and maintaining RESTful JSON APIs in production.
• Technical skills: Distributed systems, JVM languages, Python, AWS, MySQL, Infra and Monitoring Tools (Ansible, Jenkins, ELK, Graphite, Docker).
• Automate, Automate, Automate: write automated tests and support CI/CD.
• Desire for elegant, maintainable code; strong judgment and humility.
• Unfraid of new, unknown tech and eager to learn across languages and tools.
• Collaborative spirit and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features from design to deployment for Hatch's services.
• Contribute to system design and grow backend as the product scales.
• Ship features in Spring Boot + Hibernate stack, leveraging AI to speed delivery.
