Job summary

VetsEZ is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for a 100% remote role on a large federal healthcare technology initiative. You will design, develop, and modernize enterprise backend services, APIs, and integration solutions to ensure secure, scalable healthcare applications.

You will work with architects, product owners, QA, and DevSecOps to deliver reliable backend capabilities across enterprise environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, IT or related field or equivalent experience.
8+ years of backend engineering or enterprise software development experience.
Strong hands-on with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and microservices architectures.
Experience with SQL, relational DB design and data integration patterns.
Knowledge of authentication, authorization, secure app development, and enterprise security.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows; production support.
Proven ability to lead technical implementation and mentor junior engineers in Agile teams.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, system design, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in Agile delivery environments and cross-functional collaboration.
Ability to obtain and maintain Government clearance.

Responsibilities

Design and develop backend services, APIs, and enterprise integration components for healthcare applications.
Lead technical implementation with service-layer logic, data processing, error handling, and system integrations.
Align solution development with platform standards, roadmaps, and non-functional requirements.
Perform code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and promote best practices for maintainability, reliability, security, and performance.
Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, defect remediation, and production support across environments.
Optimize backend performance, monitoring, logging, and observability for stability.
Contribute to design reviews, estimations, releases, and technical documentation.
Collaborate with QA and DevSecOps to improve testability and deployment readiness.
Identify refactoring opportunities and reduce technical debt.
Support Agile delivery, contribute to sprints, increments, and releases across teams.
Take part in various projects with adaptability and collaboration.
