Job summary

Monzo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (L50) to help build scalable banking services in the UK. You’ll develop in Go, while working with Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud infra across AWS and GCP. You’ll also touch React-based tools and internal systems.

This role can be based in London or remotely within the UK, with flexible hours, visa sponsorship, relocation support, and a performance-based incentive program. You’ll collaborate across squads to solve real customer problems.

Qualifications

• Strong experience backend of a technology product.
• Product-minded, data-informed decision making.
• Experience with distributed systems and resilient software.
• Experience with strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala).

Responsibilities

• Write application code in Go for core services.
• Use Cassandra for persistent data storage and Kafka for messaging.
• Operate with Kubernetes and Docker to run services.
• Interface with AWS for production infra and GCP for data infra.
• Contribute to web apps using React and supporting tooling.
