Job summary

Clera is hiring a remote Senior Backend Engineer for a full-time position. You will own critical backend infrastructure end-to-end, from design through deployment, in a fintech startup environment serving underserved Americans.

You will design scalable architectures, build APIs on Node.js and TypeScript, and collaborate with a small, high-ownership team while utilizing AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a significant backend focus.
• Proficiency with TypeScript for backend development.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable backend architectures and APIs.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability; comfortable working end-to-end from design through deployment and monitoring.
• Ability to think critically about architectural decisions and their long-term implications.

Responsibilities

• Own backend systems and infrastructure end-to-end, designing, deploying, and scaling them on AWS.
• Build performant, reliable APIs and services that power consumer financial products.
• Design and implement scalable architectures using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Ship production code frequently while maintaining high quality standards.
• Establish technical patterns and best practices for the engineering team.
• Collaborate with product engineers and stakeholders to drive meaningful outcomes.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.
