Job summary

Cyclops is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a backend-first focus. You will own full-service responsibility, design APIs, and ensure reliable production behavior while occasionally touching frontend tasks.

The role blends API development, data modeling in PostgreSQL, and integration with external partners in a distributed payments context. Remote across the US-friendly time zone, with collaboration across Product, Engineering Manager, and senior engineers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong backend expertise with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience owning a service end-to-end, from requirements to production support.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend-heavy features using TypeScript and Node.js; build REST APIs.
• Work with PostgreSQL: data modeling, migrations, and consistency guarantees.
• Take full ownership of one or more services, including production support and external integrations.
• Own production behavior: investigate incidents, debug API issues, and improve reliability patterns (timeouts, retries, idempotency).
• Improve observability and monitor system behavior; propose reliability/performance enhancements.
• Participate in spikes to turn unclear problems into concrete technical plans.
• Collaborate with Product and EM to clarify requirements and trade-offs; review code and mentor mid-level engineers.
• Contribute to React UI when features require UI updates or customer-facing flows.
