Job summary

SmithRx, a US-based health-tech company, is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer for the Drug Access team. This remote role focuses on backend design, APIs, and scalable systems using Go, GraphQL, and SQL, with AWS infrastructure and a bias toward performance and reliability.

You will collaborate with frontend engineers and product managers to define features, while mentoring teammates and driving architectural decisions that reduce healthcare costs.

Qualifications

• BS or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4 years of equivalent professional experience.
• 5-8 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience at a high-growth startup or midsize tech company is a plus.
• Solid experience with Go, Java, C#, or C++ (Go strong).
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL and schema design, SQL tuning, and monitoring.
• Experience designing scalable APIs with good testing practices.
• Strong understanding of GraphQL APIs, CI/CD, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience using GenAI tools to deliver production software is a plus.
• Positive, team-first attitude with ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Disciplined approach to software design and milestone forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain SmithRx product features using Golang, GraphQL, Node, and SQL.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and technical leads to understand requirements and deliver scalable software.
• Create technical design documentation and provide scope and risk estimates.
• Apply software development best practices, testing, automation, and modern tools.
• Leverage AWS services like Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, and RDS for batch processing.
• Triage live production issues; assess impact; implement mitigation plans and root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior team members through design and code reviews.
• Translate technical vision into a quarterly roadmap with leadership.
• Foster a culture of learning through code reviews and exploring new tech.
• Identify and integrate AI tools to speed up delivery and quality.
