Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend in Alameda, CA to design, build, and optimize scalable backend systems using Java Spring Boot. You will create high-performance APIs and event-driven services, collaborating with Product, Platform/SRE, and Data/ML teams to ensure reliability and security across global deployments.

You will mentor junior engineers, participate in architecture decisions, and drive best practices for security, observability, and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience with distributed, cloud-native systems.
• Strong Java/Spring Boot and REST API development experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize backend systems for real-time biosensor data processing.
• Develop microservices and APIs using Java Spring Boot.
• Implement event-driven integrations with Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Collaborate with SRE to ensure observability and performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews.
• Ensure privacy-by-design and HIPAA/GDPR compliance.
