Job summary

Scribe is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Agents Engineering Team in San Francisco, offering a hybrid work setup. You’ll own backend projects—from core document workflows to new systems—collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product experiences.

As a backend engineer, you’ll optimize performance, ensure reliability, and drive architectural improvements while upholding strong engineering practices and test coverage.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building backend applications at high scale and availability.
• Strong Python experience and Django familiarity (preferred).
• Proven ability to optimize endpoints and database queries.
• Advocate for automated testing and robust code quality.
• Experience with scalable systems and observability practices.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship backend features in the Django monolith, covering core document workflows and new greenfield projects.
• Improve performance and reliability by optimizing queries, endpoints, and caching layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver scalable, intuitive experiences.
• Contribute to technical discussions, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architecture.
• Uphold engineering practices through code reviews, tests, and observability.
