Scribe is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Core Product Engineering team in San Francisco. You will shape systems powering document viewing, editing, embeds, exports, and integrations, while mentoring engineers and driving architectural decisions.

You will deepen backend performance, reliability, and testing practices, collaborating with product and design to deliver scalable editing experiences across millions of users. Equity is offered with full-time employment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development experience.
• Deep experience with Python.
• Ability to optimize endpoints and database queries.
• Advocate for automated testing and quality practices.
• Implemented engineering best practices beyond theory.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new features in the Django-based monolith.
• Improve performance and scalability of critical workflows.
• Collaborate with product/design to deliver reliable editing and rendering at scale.
• Make architectural calls on monolith vs service extraction for high-scale systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards through reviews and testing.
