Job summary

Oportun is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable platform services and shared libraries that boost developer productivity and system reliability. You will influence architecture decisions, implement best practices, and mentor engineers to raise the team’s technical bar.

You’ll contribute to continuous delivery, address performance bottlenecks, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver value.

Qualifications

• 7-8 years of software engineering experience with a bachelor’s or a master’s with equivalent experience.
• Strong backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java, C#, C++, or similar languages with solid design principles.
• 3+ years designing, building, deploying, and maintaining container-based applications.
• 4+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with Continuous Delivery and automated deployment pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills; mentoring experience.
• Knowledge of secure development practices in distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable platform services and shared libraries.
• Contribute to platform and system architecture with focus on reliability and scalability.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and promote engineering best practices.
• Collaborate to implement standards that support Continuous Delivery.
• Address performance, scalability, and reliability issues across services.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Drive operational excellence via monitoring, alerts, and incident response.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business value.
