Job summary

Chime is seeking an experienced backend engineer to scale the Cards portfolio. You will design and evolve service architectures, mentor teammates, and deliver low-latency APIs powering Trust and Safety.

A strong Rails or equivalent framework background and comfort with large-scale systems are essential. You will collaborate with product, risk, and design, while helping drive architectural decisions and cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years developing software in production at scale.
• Technical lead experience driving architecture and coordinating teams.
• Rails or equivalent frameworks experience.
• Experience with transactional databases and caching.
• Deep understanding of patterns for large web apps.
• Mentoring engineers and growing teams.
• Commitment to maintainable, well-tested code.
• Curiosity about system architectures and challenges.
• Experience in fast-paced or early-stage environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical design and architectural decisions while mentoring engineers.
• Lead and contribute to multiple projects, balancing ownership with team support.
• Build and maintain robust, low-latency APIs and backend services powering Trust and Safety.
• Become domain expert in platform architecture and provide solutions.
• Partner with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship features.
• Improve platform reliability and performance via architecture and observability.
• Advance experimentation, policy lifecycle, and ML integration for scaling decisions.
• Participate in on-call rotation as needed.
