Job summary

Makai Labs is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a full-time remote role. You will design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript, optimize performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance user experiences and drive business outcomes.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend experience, strong relational data modeling, Docker, and familiarity with HIPAA/SOC2/HITRUST compliance. Remote-ready with a focus on scalable, secure systems.

Qualifications

• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Experience in regulated, compliance-heavy environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST) with access-control, audit-logging, and data handling.
• Ability to pick up new frameworks and reason about systems, not just one stack.
• Strong relational data modeling and ORM knowledge.
• Experience using Docker.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and patterns.
• Experience working in a fully remote position.
• Familiarity with modern authorization mechanisms.

Responsibilities

• Develop new features across Node.js/TypeScript backend services.
• Optimize applications for speed and scalability.
• Ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product designers to improve usability.
• Write robust, clean, and well-documented code.
