Gemini in New York is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Money team, building, scaling, and operating core ledger and payments systems.

You will design APIs, bank settlement pipelines, and reconciliation processes, while ensuring correctness, auditability, and robust operations in a high‑volume financial environment. This role combines backend engineering with production readiness across distributed services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building backend systems in a production environment.
• Designing distributed, stateful systems with data integrity.
• Proficiency in Scala and Go or willingness to learn.
• Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Ability to reason about complex system behavior across services and data stores.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and support ledger and payments services.
• Build and evolve bank settlement and reconciliation pipelines.
• Apply engineering principles to identify correctness, consistency, and operational risks.
• Partner with finance, reconciliation, and treasury teams to model workflows.
• Design scalable APIs and data models for new transaction types and regulatory requirements.
• Write production-grade, well-tested code relied on by critical systems.
• Monitor system health, identify issues, and participate in incident response.
• Mentor teammates to ensure production readiness.
• Participate in on-call rotations as needed.
