Job summary

Gravitate is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own a substantial area of our fuel logistics platform, focusing on reliability, performance, and evolution over time. You will design complex features, compare trade-offs, and document decisions for future engineers.

You’ll work primarily on Python services and APIs, with MongoDB data modeling, async processing, and deployments on Kubernetes across GCP and Azure. You’ll mentor peers and influence product decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Deep expertise in a backend stack with Python, API design, data modeling, and automated testing.
• Experience delivering large features end-to-end and owning a service in production.
• Strong debugging, on-call, and observability skills; mentoring junior engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; openness to AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Drive delivery of large backend features end-to-end, breaking work into plans and estimating with unknowns.
• Lead technical design for complex features, evaluate trade-offs, and document decisions.
• Own significant product areas, ensuring reliability, performance, and evolution.
• Build and operate Python services, APIs, and data models (MongoDB) on Kubernetes (GCP & Azure).
• Debug production issues, identify root cause, drive recovery, and improve monitoring.
