Job summary

Alpaca is building out its backend for the Japan market with a focus on reliable, scalable systems and compliance. The Senior Engineer will design and implement services that power billions of dollars in assets while coordinating with regulators, vendors, and global teams.

You will contribute to JPX/JSCC integrations, multi-currency support, and regulatory alignment, all within a remote, globally distributed engineering culture.

Qualifications

• JLPT N1 level fluency in Japanese with professional communication to regulators, vendors, and partners.
• Business-level English for collaboration in English-only meetings and documentation.
• Proven experience in designing and developing complex financial systems, including multi-currency handling.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, ledger structures, and reconciliation.
• Experience building scalable, high-availability financial applications.
• Familiarity with Japan regulatory frameworks (FIEA, FSA, JSDA, JIPF).
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, C++, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems for the Japan market.
• Develop middle- and back-office systems with gRPC, REST APIs, and third-party vendor integrations.
• Collaborate to extend core framework for multi-language and multi-currency support, focused on Japan requirements.
• Coordinate with regulators, vendors, and partners to translate requirements into technical specs.
• Troubleshoot incidents and participate in on-call rotations during Japan business hours.
• Work with global teams to align architecture with regulatory and business goals.
