Job summary

Hostaway is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Core team. You will design, build, and operate backend services in PHP and Go, while driving the gradual extraction of services from a monolith and defining clean boundaries.

You will collaborate with Product to shape technical direction and ensure APIs are robust for AI agents and automated workflows. You will contribute to high-traffic, customer-facing systems, leveraging AWS and modern API practices, with a focus on performance, scale, and

Qualifications

6+ years as a Backend Engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals.
Proficiency in PHP and/or Golang with willingness to work in both.
Experience designing and operating high-traffic, customer-facing systems.
Experience decomposing monoliths or extracting services with pragmatic judgment.
Solid API design experience (REST/GraphQL) focused on clarity and versioning.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and Domain Driven Design (DDD).
Comfort with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in daily workflow.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate backend services in PHP and Go.
Guide extraction of services from the monolith with clear ownership and migration paths.
