Job summary

Affirms is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International) to build scalable identity services for global markets from Madrid or remote. You will own quarterly goals, design across system boundaries, and mentor engineers to improve code quality and uptime.

You will work hands-on in Kotlin and Python, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for Identity across multiple regulatory environments.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature with an elegant design.
• Proven track record of making safe, large-scale code changes and creating useful tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics from ideation to delivery, articulating constraints and risks.
• Identify and lead efforts to resolve project, process, or technology issues.
• Support operations and availability by creating metrics, monitoring and on-call practices.
• Raise code quality and design standards and advocate for them beyond your team.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to hiring and onboarding.
