Job summary

Uber Freight is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build scalable backend services for our logistics platform. You will work on robust microservices, APIs, and distributed systems, partnering with product, operations, and fellow engineers to deliver high-performance solutions.

We value deep technical depth, leadership, and the ability to guide architecture while mentoring teammates to raise the engineering bar across the organization. Hybrid work options are available in the US.

Qualifications

• BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong coding skills in one or more backend languages (Go, Java, Python, or C++).
• Experience building and scaling microservices and distributed systems integrated with APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency backend services and microservices.
• Drive architectural decisions, data models, and API contracts for resilient infrastructure.
• Promote automated backend testing, security, and code maintainability across pipelines.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and other engineering teams to ship complex features.
• Identify technical debt and bottlenecks to guide long-term scalability.
• Mentor engineers and conduct rigorous design reviews to raise engineering bar.
