Job summary

Uber Freight is seeking a Senior Fullstack Engineer to design and build end-to-end systems powering our logistics platform. You will work on backend services and API-driven frontend interfaces used by customers, collaborating across product, design, and data teams to deliver scalable, high-quality software.

You will mentor peers, influence architecture, and uphold engineering best practices across the stack in a hybrid, full-time role based in Chicago.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years across backend and frontend.
• Strong coding skills in backend languages and frontend technologies.
• Experience building scalable microservices and frontend applications integrated with APIs.
• Deep understanding of web performance, API design, and data modeling.
• Experience with testing practices across backend and frontend (unit, integration, end-to-end).

Responsibilities

• Build End-to-End Applications: Design, develop, and maintain scalable fullstack services and interfaces using Go/Java and React.
• Lead System Architecture: Drive technical design for frontend and backend distributed services.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: Promote testing, security, maintainability, and deployment pipelines.
• Drive Scoping & Product Delivery: Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data Science to define scope and deliver features.
• Shape the Technical Roadmap: Identify debt, bottlenecks, and opportunities to steer long-term direction.
• Mentor & Foster Culture: Guide engineers and conduct design/code reviews.
• Own Production Health: Troubleshoot cross-layer issues in production.
