Job summary

Gusto is seeking a senior software engineer to own backend services and APIs for money movement within the Retirement platform. This hands-on role focuses on building production systems end-to-end, handling real financial edge cases, and shipping reliable code at scale.

You’ll partner with product, compliance, and operations to translate complex requirements into robust software. You’ll work with a senior Financial Infrastructure team that manages payments, settlements, tax, and compliance

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience shipping production products or platforms.
Strong experience with services, APIs, and data-heavy workflows.
Experience with financial systems or payments, or ability to ramp quickly.
Able to own systems end-to-end including production support.
Proven collaboration with PMs and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and ship services and APIs for money movement and financial integrations.
Work on payments, settlements, reconciliation, and corrections involving real customer funds.
Build and support critical workflows like payroll integration, KYB/KYC, 401k loans, billing and invoicing, and IRA.
Mentor engineers to maximize performance and impact.
Write clear, reliable, well-tested code that ships quickly and scales.
