Job summary

Gusto is hiring a senior software engineer to own end-to-end 401(k) systems for tens of thousands of businesses. You’ll design, build, and ship production services and APIs, partner with product, compliance and operations, and evolve architectures to meet future needs.

You’ll work with Ruby on Rails or similar backend, GraphQL, and modern frontend stacks such as React, ensuring reliability, observability, and scalable software that makes a real difference in people’s lives.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms.
• Strong experience with services and APIs.
• Experience with modern frontend applications (React).
• Comfortable owning systems end-to-end, including production support and operational work.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain, and ship services and features that allow companies to offer and manage 401(k)s to their employees.
• Partner with product, design, and operations to scope work and deliver production-ready solutions.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability, observability, and operational tooling.
