Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to own the design and delivery of high-value financing features, from architecture to production launch. You will build backend services, APIs, and frameworks for loan lifecycles, ensure correctness, and collaborate across product and risk teams.

You will mentor engineers, improve tooling and observability, and drive reliability in cloud-native environments while balancing speed and safety in shipping code.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience in production.
• Experience designing and scaling service-oriented architectures.
• Proficient in Go or Java and related ecosystems.
• Experience with distributed systems requiring high uptime and data integrity.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews to improve code quality.
• Familiar with relational databases, gRPC/Protobuf, and cloud observability.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of new financing products and features, from architecture through production launch.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and frameworks for loan lifecycle management and risk calculations.
• Improve tooling, testing, monitoring, and reliability across financing systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Operations and other teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Lead initiatives to strengthen system resilience and enable fast, safe shipping.
