Job summary

Affir is building a remote-first engineering organization focused on highly scalable data infrastructure for online checkout platforms. The Senior Software Engineer will architect and scale relational and distributed SQL databases, automate provisioning, backups, failover, upgrades and perform zero-downtime migrations across multi-tenant clusters.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on with large-scale database deployments.
• Expertise in distributed databases such as MySQL, TiDB, Postgres, Spanner, Vitess.
• Knowledge of ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, PgBouncer, PgDog etc.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases (MySQL, TiDB) with end-to-end provisioning and upgrades.
• Design zero-downtime migrations across multi-tenant clusters.
• Own networking between services and storage on Kubernetes, including proxies and latency tuning.
• Deliver quarterly team goals and mentor engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to align technical constraints with business decisions.
• Identify and solve project, process, or tech issues, advocating for improvements.
