Affir is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to architect and scale Relational and Distributed SQL databases. You will automate provisioning, failover, backups, and upgrades, while designing zero-downtime migrations.

You’ll own the networking stack on Kubernetes and drive quarterly goals with your team. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of backend experience, strong knowledge of MySQL/TiDB and cloud-native tooling like Terraform and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in backend systems.
• Experience with MySQL, TiDB or distributed SQL in production.
• Hands-on with Kubernetes, Terraform and cloud platforms.
• Ability to design zero-downtime migrations and automations.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases.
• Automate provisioning, failover, backups and upgrades end to end.
• Design reliability-focused migrations across multi-tenant clusters.
• Own networking between services and storage on Kubernetes.
• Lead team goals, mentor engineers and manage delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics in decision making.
• Identify and solve project, process, or tech issues proactively.
• Maintain metrics, runbooks and on-call readiness.
