Affir is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and scale relational and distributed SQL databases, enabling reliable provisioning, backups, upgrades, and seamless migrations. You will own networking between services and storage on Kubernetes, optimize latency and resilience, and help drive quarterly team goals while mentoring peers.

Competenze

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale database deployments in production.
• Expertise in distributed databases and technologies such as MySQL, TiDB, Postgres, Spanner, Vitess, CockroachDB.
• Strong understanding of distributed database architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning; SQL optimization.
• Experience with benchmarking, load testing and capacity planning.
• Familiar with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, Pg Bouncer, PgDog.
• Built control-plane or automation tooling for databases, ideally on Kubernetes.
• Zero-downtime migrations and major version upgrades; CLI tooling/runbooks.
• Kubernetes networking, service discovery and TLS understanding for debugging connections and failovers.
• High-quality code with clear design; ability to work on large codebases and tooling.
• Ownership mindset with growth and feedback; strong written and verbal communication.

• Build and operate the control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases like MySQL and TiDB; automate provisioning, failover, backups and upgrades end-to-end.
• Design and execute zero-downtime migrations and schema changes across multi-tenant clusters.
• Own the networking stack connecting services to storage on Kubernetes, including ProxySQL and latency optimization.
• Deliver quarterly team goals; mentor engineers and provide support throughout delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to align on technical constraints and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and on-call efforts; monitor metrics and escalate when needed.
• Set or improve coding/design standards; share knowledge through writing and talks.
• Develop talent on the team through feedback and example.
