Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Software Engineer IV to join the Datastore team. You will lead the design of backend data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL models, Kafka pipelines, and a GraphQL API that enables scientific and clinical data workflows.

You will collaborate across platform, application, and scientific teams to unlock new workflows, mentor engineers, and drive reliability, tooling, and documentation improvements across the data platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development, with 3+ years in data platforms and backend infrastructure.
• Deep expertise in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
• Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL in production, ability to tune queries and design schemas.
• Experience with data streaming using Kafka or equivalent; familiarity with Julia or Python.
• Experience deploying services in Kubernetes and IaC tools like Terraform/Helm.
• Mentoring engineers, improving tooling, tests, and documentation; strong communicator.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture for complex datastore projects and datasets pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and engineers to translate requirements into scalable integrations.
• Debug cross-system issues and improve code quality, tests, and documentation.
• Draft RFCs and steer feature discovery, balancing speed, generalizability, and technical debt.
• Plan work for oneself and the team while mentoring others on best practices.
