Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join the Datastore team. The Datastore defines our core data model and serves as the centralized repository and API for brain data from clinical studies, supporting analytics tools used by scientists and partners.

This role emphasizes scalable data models, event-driven pipelines, and engineering best practices. You will coach engineers, collaborate with product and scientific leads, and help shape architectural direction across Platform

Qualifications

10+ years of backend development experience in data-centric applications.
Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL in production environments.
Experience with data streaming/event processing (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar) and cloud/container ecosystems.
Familiarity with IaC tools (Terraform/Helm) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
Excellent written and verbal communication for asynchronous, remote teams.
Ability to draft RFCs and lead architectural design discussions across platform teams.
Interest in partnering with product and science teams to shape Datastore architecture.

Responsibilities

Architect scalable data models spanning the Beacon Platform.
Lead design discussions, draft RFCs, and align stakeholders on technical direction.
Coach engineers and stakeholders on best practices for data engineering and platform reliability.
Develop features that emphasize data integrity, maintainability, and scalability as the datastore grows.
Collaborate across platform and scientific teams to meet business and research objectives.
