Job summary

Tanium Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own how data leaves Tanium and reaches external systems. You will design backend services in Node.js and Golang, build connectors, and shape API contracts while mentoring engineers. This role blends hands-on delivery with strategic architectural influence.

The position follows a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days per week in Durham, NC or Emeryville, CA. US-based candidates only.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building backend services in production.
• Strong proficiency in Golang or Node.js; comfortable with both.
• Experience designing REST/GraphQL/gRPC APIs and event-driven systems.
• Experience with third-party API integrations and OAuth.
• Cloud and containers: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform; Azure or AWS.
• SQL or NoSQL data stores; Git and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services to export endpoint data to external systems.
• Develop and evolve Connect APIs with versioning and compatibility.
• Build and maintain connectors to third-party platforms; handle auth and formats.
• Own delivery guarantees: retries, backoff, deduplication, back-pressure.
• Create event-driven workflows using NATS and Temporal; ensure durability.
• Lead technical design for new capabilities and write design docs.
• Improve observability with metrics, logs, tracing, and alerts.
• Write unit tests; collaborate on integration and end-to-end coverage.
• Debug production issues and implement robust fixes; mentor others.
