Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Acquisition) to own backend systems at scale from Madrid or remote. You will define long-term technical strategy, mentor engineers, and influence product, design, and engineering decisions to improve conversion and growth.

You will work with Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes to deliver highly available services. Expect on-call rotations, strong code quality standards, and growth opportunities within a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to define technical plans and deliver features with simple, extensible design.
• Strong ownership and collaboration across product, design, and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals for the team and drive delivery.
• Lead engineers through ambiguity and resolve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics across the lifecycle.
• Establish monitoring, on-call readiness, and reliability practices.
• Mentor engineers and raise code quality through reviews and talks.
