Affirm is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Cards) for a remote US role. You will define the technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and lead AI-driven initiatives while maintaining high quality and reliable, scalable systems.

You will partner with engineering leaders and stakeholders to implement technical strategy across full-stack teams, shaping engineering culture and delivering critical initiatives with strong ownership. Remote-first with flexibility in the US.

Qualifications

• This role requires a high level of technical ability, leadership and project management skills, strong cross-functional communication, and a customer-first mindset.
• Experience driving change across large engineering organizations
• Track record of successfully leading critical projects and leveraging multiple engineering teams across organizational boundaries
• Extensive experience developing and implementing technical strategy that drove reliability and responsiveness
• Ownership mindset and ability to influence culture across teams
• Collaborative partnership across engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience mentoring and growing engineers up to Staff level
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for stakeholders

• Lead the vision – Define the technical direction, long-term technical roadmap, and strategic initiatives in Cards.
• Be a role model - Lead from the front using AI to build fast, take initiative, and revolutionize how we work.
• Stay close to industry leaders in FinTech, learning from market trends to strengthen our team.
• Work with stakeholders across all teams to champion technical excellence aligned with business results
• Create ownership culture with high accountability and investment for scale and efficiency
• Architect and contribute to decisions on platform, tools, and technologies for reliability
• Mentor and lead a strong group of engineers by championing best practices and growth
