Job summary

VTG Defense seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead backend development in a security-cleared environment in Chantilly, VA. You will design, build, and test backend systems using Python and JavaScript, with Linux-based automation and network analysis expertise.

You will also analyze unfamiliar code, reproduce behavior, and implement automated testing and infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required.
• Extensive hands-on software development experience.
• Proficient in Python and JavaScript.
• Experience in at least one additional backend language.
• Experience analyzing unfamiliar code to reproduce behavior.
• Experience developing a software testing harness or continuous testing.
• Experience installing Linux from scratch and developing complex Unix shell scripts.
• Experience analyzing network traffic to understand client/server communications.
• Experience using AWS CDK for infrastructure as code.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain backend software and supporting tools.
• Develop applications and automation using Python, JavaScript, and additional backend languages.
• Analyze unfamiliar source code to identify relevant data fields, understand application logic, and reproduce software behavior.
• Build software system testing harnesses or implement continuous testing methodologies to validate functionality and reliability.
• Install and configure Linux environments from scratch to support development and testing.
• Develop and maintain complex Unix shell scripts for automation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Analyze network traffic to understand client/server communications, request structures, and application interactions.
• Develop and manage AWS infrastructure as code using AWS CDK.
• Document technical findings, software behavior, testing approaches, and system configurations.
