Job summary

VTG Defense seeks a Principal Software Engineer in Hanover, Maryland to design, develop, integrate, and maintain secure, high-performance software for mission-critical defense initiatives. You will work with distributed systems, Python, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Kubernetes, and Helm to deliver scalable solutions that protect national security interests.

The ideal candidate has 20+ years of software engineering experience, advanced Python skills, and hands-on Kubernetes/Container orchestration,

Qualifications

BS degree in a technical field such as CS, SE, CE, EE, or math.
20+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Advanced Python development experience.
Expertise with distributed applications using Protocol Buffers and gRPC.
Hands-on Kubernetes and container orchestration experience.
Experience designing and maintaining scalable mission-critical systems.
Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

Analyze requirements to derive software design, interfaces, and performance needs.
Develop, modify, test, integrate, and maintain mission-critical software.
Build distributed services using Python, Protocol Buffers, and gRPC.
Create and maintain Helm charts, Kubernetes resources, and deployment configurations.
Develop automation scripts to improve build, test, and deployment workflows.
Support GitLab CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
Collaborate with software, systems, and hardware teams to define requirements.
Troubleshoot software, container, deployment, and integration issues.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers.
