Job summary

GitLab is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for the Authentication team to build and evolve authentication features across Rails and GATE. You will help migrate paths, implement token issuance/validation, and advance identity services across multi-tenant deployments.

You will tackle security-focused challenges, work across Go and Ruby codebases, and contribute to scalable, maintainable standards in a high-velocity environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with Go or Ruby in scaling SaaS products.
• Knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, SAML, SSO, SCIM, LDAP, JWT, RBAC/IAM.
• Strong written and verbal English in a remote, async environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement authentication features across Rails monolith and GATE.
• Help migrate authentication paths from monolith into GATE while preserving reliability.
• Build authentication mechanisms from scratch, e.g., Workload Identity Federation.
• Strengthen security posture via robust access management and HackerOne feedback.
• Collaborate on coding standards and contribute to project maintainer development.
