Job summary

GitLab is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer in the Developer Experience group. You will work cross-functionally to identify and remove friction across six DevEx teams, shaping the engineering culture and CI/CD practices.

Expect hands-on coding in Ruby/Go, designing scalable solutions, and leading initiatives that improve developer productivity and code quality. You’ll collaborate with Platform, Product, and Infrastructure teams to deliver fast feedback, reduce bottlenecks, and promote a culture of

Qualifications

Experience with developer tooling and testing at scale.
Led platform or transformation initiatives across multiple teams.
Strong collaboration across functions in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on engineering contributions and leadership across six Developer Experience teams.
Identify pain points and translate into actionable improvements for the Developer Experience roadmap.
Modernize our testing to support GitLab's growth with fast, reliable feedback without slowing engineers.
Optimize CI/CD pipelines to reduce merge friction and accelerate delivery.
Break down systemic bottlenecks by collaborating with Platform, Product, and Infrastructure teams.
Foster a culture of learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement across the organization.
