United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and improve developer-facing tools and systems. You’ll work on cloud-based workflows, enhance license handling, and break monoliths into modular tools while advancing AI-powered capabilities.

Based in San Mateo, CA, this onsite role invites engineers at any stage to contribute and grow. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, write Python or Go, and leverage AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Istio to build scalable,

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience and enthusiasm for learning about new infrastructure products and features.
• Comfortable with frontier infrastructure and software development.
• Proficient in Python and/or Go.
• Experience with one major cloud platform (prefer AWS).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, Istio preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build cloud-based tooling and improve existing developer tools.
• Improve handling of licenses and manage infrastructure components.
• Break monolith tools into smaller, maintainable modules.
• Improve the feature flags system and security controls.
• Develop tools that leverage AI and privacy-conscious design.
• Contribute to open-source systems used by the company.
