Job summary

Pinwheel is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own AI-driven, platform-level problem spaces end-to-end and raise the technical bar for the Integrations Engineering team. You will identify recurring categories, design scalable systems, and lead execution with junior and mid-level engineers in a hybrid NYC setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Computer Science degree or comparable experience.
• AI-forward thinking with willingness to drive AI projects forward.
• Strong systems design with defensible tradeoffs and failure mode awareness.
• Demonstrated autonomous project leadership from idea to business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own platform initiatives end-to-end: scope, design, build, ship, and maintain.
• Drive design for new integration infrastructure, including services, queues, data pipelines, async workflows.
• Lead projects staffed with junior and mid-level engineers and improve productivity via code reviews and feedback.
• Identify and eliminate classes of problems rather than patching single bugs.
• Set technical direction in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Collaborate with IE and adjacent teams to ensure platform primitives meet consumer needs.
