Job summary

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer for the Prisma AIRS platform. You will design and implement scalable backend systems powering AI security, set technical direction, and mentor engineers.

This role is based at the Santa Clara, CA campus, with on-site office presence required for a portion of the week. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of software engineering experience, strong cloud and distributed systems expertise, and a track record of delivering

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering in large distributed systems.
Expertise in at least one strongly typed language (Go, Java, C#, C++) or modern Python.
Experience with a major cloud provider (GCP/AWS/Azure).
Hands-on experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (Postgres, MySQL, Spanner, MongoDB).
Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j is highly desired.
Experience with a queuing system (RabbitMQ, Kafka, PubSub).
Experience with microservices (Kubernetes, Docker, serverless).
Experience writing unit and end-to-end tests.
On-call troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

Set the technical direction for shared platform services and drive architecture decisions.
Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and infra engineers to ensure success.
Design, build, and operate scalable, reliable platform features for AI security.
Own new features from definition to production and testing.
Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across teams.
