Job summary

Axon is seeking a senior backend engineer to own design and delivery of scalable, secure cloud-based software. You will lead multi-cloud initiatives (AWS/Azure), mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and design teams to ship high-impact features.

The role emphasizes strong communication, architectural leadership, and hands-on coding in Go/Scala/Java/TypeScript, with a hybrid Seattle-based office schedule.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience designing and delivering highly-available, scalable cloud-based systems.
• Full-stack development experience in Go, Scala, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, C# or similar.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL data stores.
• Experience with real-time streaming events like Kafka or ActiveMQ.
• Bonus: React frontend experience.
• Bonus: Mobile development experience.
• Bonus: automated testing frameworks like Selenium, Puppeteer, or Playwright.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure, high-performance software in mission-critical space.
• Lead technical projects from concept to launch, ensuring solutions meet business and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to create delightful solutions for customers.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the group.
• Define a technical vision within the team and larger organization.
• Partner with managers and directors to set strategic direction for the group.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide constructive feedback through PRs.
• Write and review design documents, library proposals, and technical visions.
• Define and manage roadmaps for the technical backlog.
• Improve engineering processes to boost efficiency and quality.
