Axon is seeking a senior backend engineer to own and design scalable, cloud-based systems across AWS and Azure. You will lead multi-team projects, mentor engineers, and help shape architectural direction while maintaining clear communication of complex technical details.

The role emphasizes ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and driving high-throughput ingestion work for the DEMS Ingestion team in a hybrid Seattle office setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience designing and delivering highly-available, scalable cloud-based systems.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL data stores.
• Experience with real-time streaming event log or messaging technologies such as Kafka or ActiveMQ.
• Bonus: Front-end (React).
• Bonus: Mobile development.
• Bonus: Automated testing frameworks like Selenium, Puppeteer, or Playwright.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure, high-performance software in this mission-critical space.
• Lead technical projects from concept to launch, meeting business and technical requirements.
• Collaborate across teams with Product, Design, and Engineering to create customer-delighting solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship for engineers across the group.
• Help define a technical vision within the team and organization.
• Define strategic technical direction with leaders across the org.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide feedback through PR reviews.
• Write and review design documents and technical vision papers.
• Define and manage roadmaps for the technical backlog.
• Continuously improve engineering processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
