Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in AWS data engineering to modernize a healthcare data platform. You will lead migration from MSSQL XML to a cloud-native AWS solution, enabling SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders.

You will evaluate AWS data services, design scalable data models, and implement CI/CD and IaC across the stack, collaborating with back-end engineers and analysts in a fully remote US-based role.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations in production enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Track record of evaluating and selecting AWS data services to meet business reporting and query requirements.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Deep hands-on AWS experience across data services and tooling.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to design relational query layers over XML/JSON.
• Familiarity with XML-heavy data stores and healthcare data standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Architect migration from MSSQL XML object store to AWS data platform.
• Design and build reporting layers for SQL queries against healthcare data.
• Develop and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into data models.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure using AWS-native tools.
• Apply IaC practices using CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
