Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to advance a cloud-based healthcare data platform on AWS. The role focuses on designing scalable data architectures and reporting layers for business users.

You will migrate XML object stores to AWS, optimize data schemas, and collaborate with a .NET team to ensure smooth data flow from EDI processes. Strong AWS, SQL, and IaC skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience migrating cloud data platforms in production or healthcare environments.
• Proven ability to select AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services expertise (S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda).
• Strong SQL for relational queries over XML/JSON and XML data stores.
• Familiarity with XML-heavy data stores and data transformations at scale.
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs across AWS data services on cost/performance.
• Experience with BI tools (Athena/QuickSight/Redshift or equivalents).
• Proficient with Git, CI/CD, and IaC tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead healthcare data platform modernization efforts.
• Architect AWS-native data storage and reporting layers.
• Design and implement SQL-based reporting for business users.
• Plan migration of XML object stores from MSSQL to AWS.
• Build data catalogs, schemas, and metadata management.
• Optimize queries and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models.
• Coordinate with .NET backend to ensure data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure with AWS tools.
• Apply IaC using AWS CDK/CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries.
