Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer, Avionics, to lead design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for our Winnebago Spaceship. You will ensure readiness for launch and reentry, coordinating with multiple teams and working on HITL demonstrations.

The role requires a strong background in avionics hardware, software, and testing, with a focus on reliability, validation, and mission success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in Python programming and debugging.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4-20mA devices.
• Familiarity with Unix environments and command line usage.
• Experience developing HITL test beds and conducting system-level tests.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes from concept to production.
• Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, and mass predictions.
• Assess architecture risks and define mitigation plans with FDIR considerations.
• Create comprehensive verification plans for avionics on flight and HITL hardware.
• Support mission operations as an avionics specialist and assist with reentry criteria.
• Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics, serving as primary contact for system investigations.
• Design, build and operate HITL testbeds to validate mission readiness.
• Develop avionics ground infrastructure and testing equipment; promote testing automation.
• Mentor and train junior engineers to foster a culture of learning.
